A Boy Called Christmas

A great family movie available on Netflix, based on the best seller by author Matt Haig.

A daring child, little Nicolas who as he tries to find his father to bring home the gift of hope meets his destiny in a magical place inhabited by elves.

The film begins with Dame Maggie Smith as Aunt Ruth, a babysitter for three children, who tells them a story about a boy named Vassilis (Henry Lawfull) who lived a long time ago in a remote mountain hut in Finland. with his father, a lumberjack named Joel (Michiel Huisman). Vassilis was mourning for his mother, who was killed by a bear and every night he asked his father to tell him the story he was telling him, about a little girl who got lost in the forest and the elves loved and protected him.

Nicolas, had only one toy, a doll made by his mother. And a friend, a mouse named Miika who was trying to teach him how to speak.

The King (Jim Broadbent) called on his most loyal subjects, including Joel’s father, Joel, to announce a challenge to them. He wanted to restore hope to his people and so he instructed them to try to find it. So Joel started trying to find the elves, in case it wasn’t a fairy tale. When Nicolas discovers a clue to Elfhelm’s whereabouts, he and Mika (voiced by Steven Merchand) begin searching for his father to help him find her.

Their search turned into a magical adventure through snowy mountains, with both natural and fantastic challenges. The child helped a reindeer and named it Lake Blitzen. He also had a scary encounter with a troll and a less scary one with a winged pixie who could only tell the truth and likes to fire colorful explosives.

Elfhelm, however, is no longer the happy, generous place it once was, because the strangers who welcomed it betrayed them. The child took some painful and difficult lessons, but always faced the challenges with kindness and integrity.
